1on1 Workshop w/ Amy & Steve Glover

Back in Dec. I had a wedding in Scottsdale AZ. Amy & Steve contacted me about attending a Film is Not Dead workshop but none of the dates/locations worked for them. So, we did a 1on1 workshop with just the 3 of us while I was in AZ as they literally were like 5 minutes away. They came to my wedding on the 26th and watched me/assisted me at the wedding. Then the next day we spent a big chunk of the day at their BEAUTIFUL home (seriously, it was so, so rad) talking all aspects of film, business, marketing, posing, post-processing, you name it. Questions asked, questions answered. And then went out and did a small family session with their (GORGEOUS) friends. My only regret is not getting a real photo of Amy & Steve on film (there is one shot here of Amy in the mirror but you can't see her all that well). And did I mention her kids are ANGELS? I had family dinner with them and it was AMAZING to see them all sitting sans screaming, being UBER polite, eating all the food on their plates. Such a polar opposite of my angels :). I really felt like family in their home and made some great, great new friends. Thanks so much Amy & Steve for having me out and here's to 2010!

If you can't make it to one of the Film is Not Dead workshops, and are interested in doing a 1on1, drop me a line. There are 3 options where you can either come to me, I come to you, or we do it when I'm in your area. There are also options to attend a wedding I shoot as well. Again, email me for the details.

Got a question, I MIGHT have an answer...

So, I get a TON of emails asking me all kinds of questions and a lot of them are the same thing over and over and over again. If anyone knows me, they know I'm an open book. I don't have any secrets, and it is no secret how I got to where I am today (HARD WORK, SACRIFICE, DISCIPLINE).

So, I opened an account at formspringme.com. Here you can ask me any question under the sun regarding photography (and other things I guess). You ask it, and I will answer it. The only reason I won't answer is if the question has been answered before or you ask me something that well, you should not be asking me.

You can ask questions like you know, like questions like, is that really you at 1:08 of THIS VIDEO? Or, where is your next Workshop? So, if you have a photography related question, or something not TOO personal, fire away.

Engagement shoot for UVU - Dallin & Sarah

One of my students lined up some folks (Dallin & Sarah) to come in and model as an "engaged" couple so we could practice shooting/posing etc. Though they were not really engaged and it was actually their 5th anniversary the day they came and modeled. All the same I guess. These were shot on campus just outside the photo studio.

My life 2.13.2010 - Fuji FP-3000B

These were all taken on Saturday the 13th, 2010. Scott, my father-in-law flew in from Dallas for literally like 8 hours to come see Weston. All of Callie's siblings came up to the PICU and we took turns seeing Weston and spent some quality time as a family. It was SO great to be there with everyone even if our kids were louder than the show we saw that night :). Scott had to be at the airport around 2 so we headed back to Lehi where I hung out with the kids for a bit until the babysitter came. Callie and I headed to Provo to go see Micah play a quick show @ Muse Music. My good friend from college, Michelle, was working 2 doors down at the other venue (Velour) so I stepped in and snapped a couple shots, 1 for her, 1 for me :). Then all of Callie's siblings, their significant others (except her brother Collin) went to Wingers. Definitely not my first choice to go to eat but one of my brother in laws LOVES it (Covey) so off we went. My bowels hated me later that night but all in all it was awesome to be with everyone.

I can't say this enough, there is nothing more important in this world to me than my family.

These were all taken on my Polaroid 600SE on Fuji FP-3000B instant film. This camera definitely takes some getting used to as it is a range finder camera AND everything is backwards (you hold it on the left and focus with your right hand) but I love this combo of camera and film almost as much as I love my family. Seriously. It has become my camera/film choice for all my personal work. Why? Because it is instant, the 3000 ISO I find to be useful in ALL lighting situation, it is 3x4 prints, and it is life unscripted which is a bit different than my weddings where things might be slightly directed. The last thing I love about this is that I almost NEVER use a light meter when shooting this camera. I am really starting to know my exposures @ 3000iso no matter what the lighting situation is. That is not to say I nail it every time, but I am always really close. This is what personal work is all about, learning your craft on your own time, not when someone is paying you.

Totally winded post compared to any post I've put up lately but one last thing! I wanted to ask if anyone else has this camera, if they have any advice about reducing the spotting on the prints? I clean my rollers EVERY TIME but I still get spots on my images from splotchy developing. Anybody have any advice?
